Get the Heyweek extension running in Chrome in a couple of minutes.

Overview

The Heyweek extension is a Chrome (Manifest V3) extension published on the Chrome Web Store. Installing it takes a single click, after which you sign in to connect it to your workspace. It works in Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers that can install extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

NOTE

Versions for Firefox, Safari, and other non-Chromium browsers are not yet available. If you don't use a Chromium-based browser, you can still track time from the web app, mobile, or the CLI.

Install from the Chrome Web Store

  1. Open the Heyweek extension on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome.
  3. Confirm by clicking Add extension.
  4. Pin the extension to your toolbar so the timer is always one click away — click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to Heyweek.

After installing, click the Heyweek icon in your toolbar to open the popup and sign in. This connects the extension to your Heyweek workspace so the timer it controls is the same one used everywhere else in Heyweek.

Permissions

When you install the extension, Chrome will tell you what it can access. The main permissions it uses are:

  • Storage — to keep your preferences and timer state locally.
  • Notifications — to show reminders, such as a running-timer alert.
  • Idle detection — to notice when you've stepped away from your machine.
  • Active tab & GitHub access — to add the timer button on GitHub issues and pull requests.

Verify it's working

  1. Click the extension icon to open the popup.
  2. Start a timer, then stop it.
  3. Open your Time Tracking list in the web app — the entry should appear there.

Updating

Chrome updates extensions automatically. To check manually, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode in the top-right corner, and click Update.

Troubleshooting

The extension icon isn't visible

  • Make sure it's enabled at chrome://extensions.
  • Pin it via the toolbar's puzzle-piece menu.
  • Restart Chrome.

Can't sign in

  • Confirm your credentials work in the web app.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • As a last resort, right-click the extension icon and choose Clear Extension Storage to reset its local state, then sign in again.

Timer button missing on GitHub

  • Reload the GitHub page after installing or updating the extension.
  • Confirm the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions.
